The Power of Prayer

I just want to open this blog with a note about how thankful I am for all of the people who are praying for me.

I've never been so thankful for the Lord's work through prayer than right now. I've just found out that I've been appointed as a Missionary Associate to Uganda for a 1 year position starting in September! I have so much to do that I covet your prayers for my to-do list to proceed well.

I have always seen that talking to my heavenly Father has power in so many ways, but never more than when I know that people around me are praying specifically for me.

1) It has power to move things in the world around us, according to God's will. I was reminding the youth group that there are many promises in the Bible that are guaranteed to be answered 'yes' if we ask. As usual, reminding someone else of God's power and promises served as a good reminder. It has challenged me to claim God's promises that I know will be given.
"If ye shall ask anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:14)

2) It has power to change our hearts, to align with God's will and bring us peace. Prayer helps me to adjust my heart and mind to the mind of God. Praying that his will would be done, helps to remind me that his will is the best thing that could happen.
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27)

3) It has the power to bring us together as the people of God. I was strongly reminded of this ability as the ladies of my church gathered to pray this afternoon. I was strongly reminded of the community that is all together in Christ. I know that even when I'm not with them, my family in Christ is lifting me up to his throne in prayer.
"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matt. 18:20)
